The following instructions may be helpful when preparing for your upcoming surgery. Please do not hesitate to call if you have any last-minute questions. We can be reached at Signature Periodontics & Implant Dentistry: Charlotte Phone Number (704) 366-2774 during regular business hours.

  • You will be anesthetized with local anesthetics as you would for any other dental procedure.
  • No aspirin for 3 days prior to surgery. Advil or Tylenol products are acceptable.
  • If you are taking a prescribed blood thinner, please advise our office.
  • If you take an antibiotic pre-medication, please take it as directed before your surgery.
  • Please eat well and nutritionally prior to your appointment.
  • We keep the office cool, so dress warmly.
  • Try to schedule your surgery so that you can rest for the duration of that day. It is not recommended to return to work, school, or other responsibilities on the day of surgery. To minimize any possible bleeding problems, the rule of the day is “no physical exertion.”
  • Normally, you will be able to drive home unattended following your surgical appointment. If you faint easily or are prescribed an oral sedative, you should have someone available to drive you to and from your appointment.

Antibiotics

Please alert the office to any allergies or sensitivities that you might have to antibiotics. You will be prescribed an antibiotic if our doctor determines it to be necessary. Take as directed until gone. It is advisable not to take these medications on an empty stomach, as nausea may result. For women taking birth control pills, be advised that antibiotics may interfere with their effectiveness.

Follow Up

In order to evaluate your progress and healing, we will see you for weekly post-operative checks during the first 1-5 weeks. In most cases, after surgery, we will also look forward to seeing you back for a periodontal maintenance cleaning and an examination of tissue maturation about 10-12 weeks following the surgery.
